BIO
Born
in Utica, NY in 1919, Hal White grew up
playing American Legion baseball under
the direction of his father, a semi-pro
catcher.
Early
in his career White signed with the Rome
Colonels for $100 a month and $1.25 for
meal money. He played his way from Buffalo
to Detroit, and at the peak of his career,
left to serve in the navy during World
War II.
White returned to the majors
in 1942. As his play waned in the 1950s,
he sold cars in Utica, and eventually
retired to Florida. He remained active
in the game, including efforts in coaching,
scouting and managing.
