was a Rome native known as the "Rapid
Roman" for his excellence in modified
racing.
Evans began
his career at the Utica-Rome Speedway
in the 1960's. Today he is highly regarded
as an icon of modified racing, winning

Evans fought
the NASCAR establishment for the right
to race in non-sanctioned races and won.
During this period the word "outlaw"
was emblazoned on the back of his coupe.
Evans died
