BIO
Hardy
Richardson was born in Clarksboro, NJ
in 1855. The Buffalo Bisons was his first
Major League team. Although Richardson
played many positions during his career,
he was most noted as a second baseman,
one of the greatest of the nineteenth
century.
In Buffalo,
Richardson was a part of the "Big Four,"
Buffalo's elite infield which also included
Dan Brouthers, Deacon White and Jack Rowe.
When the team left the National League
after the 1885 season, Detroit bought
the Buffalo roster to secure the Big Four.
Soon
afer the acquisition, the Big Four guided
Detroit to the National League pennant.
Richardson
had several notable achievements in his
career, including leading the National
League in hits and homeruns in 1886. He
is buried with his wife at the Forest
Hill Cemetary in Utica, NY.
