William James Duggleby (Bill)
was born in Utica, NY on March 16, 1874.
Nicknamed Frosty Bill, he
began his major league career on April
21, 1898 with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Duggleby was the first player to hit a
homerun in his first major league at-bat.
Duggleby played eight seasons
on three different teams: Philadelphia
Phillies, Philadelphia Athletics and Pittsburgh
Pirates. Most of his career was played
with the Phillies.
Frosty Bill's baseball career
ended in 1907. He was playing for the
Pirates at the time.
Duggleby died on August
30, 1944 in Redfield, NY.
