Quick BIO

Grover Cleveland was born in New Jersey and grew up in Clinton, NY. After a career in law, he was elected the mayor of Buffalo and then governor of New York.

Cleveland was the first democratic president elected after the Civil War. He was also the only president to get married in the White House. He was not re-elected the next term, but came back and was re-elected four years later.

Cleveland was noted for being a president with tough stances on many issues. His second term was faced with the project of dealing with widespread depression. His party eventually abandoned him in 1896.
