Born
in Hailey, Idaho, Ezra Pound received
his degree from Hamilton College in 1905.
During his later travels through Europe
he cultured an interest in Chinese and
Japanese poetry. In 1917, Pound signed
on as the London editor of the Little
Review.
In 1924, Pound moved to
Italy and grew involved with Facist politics.
When he later returned to the United States
in 1945, he was arrested for treason.
A year later he was aquitted, but was
committed to a mental institution after
he was declared mentally ill. His stay
in the mental institution was appealed
by many writers until his release in 1958.
Upon his release, he returned to Italy
where he died a recluse in 1972.
