BIO
Frank
Baum was born in Chittenango, NY to a
wealthy family. Although plagued by poor
health, he grew into an ambitious man.
Baum
had many experiences with print and theater
in his youth. Later, the family fortune
fell on hard times. Baum was involved
with several newspapers and was a reporter
for Chicago's Evening Times. He also earned
extra income as a traveling salesman.
Some of his experiences on the road were
later put into a book The Wonderful
Wizard of Oz, which became a big success.
Baum
continued the "Oz" series, publishing
approximately a book a year, and was involved
in creating a stage version. Many years
and projects later, he passed away on
May 5, 1919.
