BIO
Linus Yale was born in Salisbury,
NY in 1821. He founded a lock factory
in nearby Newport, NY in 1847 which began
his tradition of excellence in lock making.
His most famous lock is
the "Yale Bank Lock," which
was widely used in bank vaults. The "Octagon
House" in Newport features his locks
on every door.
The lock company moved to
Philadelphia and then eventually Stamford,
Conn.
Yale remains a trusted name
in locks today.
