Quick BIO

Skenandoa was an Oneida Indian chief who supported the American cause during the Revolutionary War. During the winter of 1777-78, Skenandoa and other Oneidas carried bushels of corn to Gen. George Washington’s starving soldiers at Valley Forge.

The chief joined his close friend, the Rev. Samuel Kirkland, in the Oneida County Hall of Fame. Kirkland founded the Hamilton-Oneida Academy in 1793, which evolved into Hamilton College. When Skenandoa died, he asked to be buried next to Kirkland in the cemetery on the Hamilton campus.
