Eliphalet began his quest
for the perfect rifle at a forge in Ilion
Gulch in 1816. The location was eventually
moved to its location in Ilion as a nationally
recognized brand was born.
His son Philo Remington,
born in Litchfield, guided the company
during and after the Civil War. During
his life the company expanded to include
such products as typewriters and sewing
machines.
Remington also supplied
firearms for military purposes: rifles
for the U.S Army in the Mexican War, and
also to several European countries.
Remington Arms remains a
prominent name today, although it is no
longer controlled by the Remington family.
