Born in New Jersey in 1875, Charles Stewart Mott moved to Utica, NY in 1900 to supervise the Weston-Mott Co.

Under Mott's direction, the unprofitable company was moved to Flint, Michigan where it grew into the world's largest axle company and was bought by General Motors.

As well as serving as the director for General Motors in 1913, Mott also served multiple terms as the mayor of Flint and founded the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
