Quick BIO

Born in Connecticut, Kirkland was a commisioned missionary to the Oneida Indians. During the Revolutionary War he served as a chaplain. He was granted 4,000 acres of land by New York State in reward for his mediation efforts during the War.

Kirland founded the Hamilton-Oneida Academy on the land which eventally became Hamilton College.
