Quick BIO

Charles Grandison Finney was born in 1792 in Warren, Connecticut. At age two, his family moved to the wilderness of Oneida County.

In his youth, Finney did not appear to have much religious concern. He left Oneida County to pursue his education in Connecticut.

As a young man studying law in Adams, NY, Finney's life changed dramatically and he made a committment to spread the word of God.

Finney came to be known as a charismatic man who held large revivials, including ones in Utica and Rome. His revival practices were considered controversial by many and included the public praying of women, daily services over a period of time and the use of colloquial language at the pulpit.

Finney married a Whitestown woman, Lydia Andrews, in 1824.
