Here’s how a story leads off in the former Frankfort Citizen, July 28, 1906. This was just a few days after Chester Gillette’s arrest and well before the November trial:

“(The case) continues to be discussed and the more that is learned of the case the more apparent becomes the fact that the crime was deliberately planned and executed in a heartless, cold-blooded manner. Sentiment and facts indicate that the electric chair awaits Chester Gillette.”
