"Literature in a hurry" ... "History on the run" ... Whatever you call it, journalism has always been an important part of America's democracy. And in Utica, for the last 200 years, that journalism has come from the Observer-Dispatch.

As we celebrate our bicentennial this year, we're still proud to call the Mohawk Valley home. And we're digging into our archives — and the memories of former staff members — to share parts of our past, and the area's past, that some have never seen before.

But first, we want to thank you, the readers, for sticking with us throughout our long history. We hope you'll join us in celebrating 200 years of local news, and revisit this site often throughout the year, as we continue to add more photos and stories to our collection.
