Musicians for Haiti

This from the Associated Press:

Haitian-born musician Wyclef Jean is calling for an evacuation of his homeland's earthquake-ravaged capital and asking for international aid to help set up tent cities nearby.

He envisions temporary settlements housing 100,000 people each outside Port-au-Prince.

Jean is one of Haiti's most famous sons and has been a prominent voice in relief efforts since Tuesday's earthquake. He has raised more than $2 million through his charity, The Wyclef Jean Foundation Inc. It is also known as Yele Haiti.

*Jean even canceled an Australian tour to focus on assisting his home country during the relief efforts.

From the south: South Carolina musician Zach Deputy, who has become a popular attraction when he performs at the Electric Company, is giving $1 of every admission to his shows to the American Red Cross Haiti relief fund.

Melodic Revolution Records (run by former Clinton resident Nick Katona who now lives in Floria but still orchestrates the Clinton Arts and Music Festival each year) is seeking digital submissions in all genres of music to add to a recording that will assist in raising money for Haiti's earthquake victims. Submissions must be original recordings. Visit musicisourvoice.ning.com/ for details.
