Moshier: Herkimer's Crandall impressive

Another Crandall kid from Herkimer, another star in the making?

It looks that way.

Sophomore Sean Crandall, the younger brother of former Herkimer High School standouts Kyle and J.J., was more than a little bit impressive in Saturday’s season opener at Dolgeville.

Crandall, a six-foot, 190-pounder, played tailback and quarterback, alternating most of the day with senior Mike Fahy. Crandall rushed for 50 yards and two touchdowns, had two completions for 30 yards, and also caught four passes for 26 yards. He also played linebacker for the Magicians, who rallied from a 21-7 halftime deficit and then lost in the final minute, 27-21.

Despite the loss, Herkimer looks like a Class C East contender again this year, led by seniors Fahy and Myles Malta and yet another multi-talented Crandall kid. Fahy can run and throw, too, but he may be most impressive as a place kicker and punter. He’s got quite a leg.
