Proctor graduate Will Smith, the New Orleans Saints’ pro bowl defensive end, will conduct his second annual football
Smith, who had 66 tackles and seven sacks a year ago, seems headed toward a new contract with the Saints. His current deal will expire after the 2008 season, but most NFL observers expect the Saints to open the bank vault to sign Smith, one of the NFL’s most complete defensive ends.
Few have worked harder – or are more deserving – of a big pay day.

Seriously people. What kind of comment is that? How dare you be so sarcastic. Will does not HAVE to do anything. If fact, many of the professional athletes do just that....NOTHING. Be grateful that he remembers his roots and is willing to give back to the youth of this community.
This is why so many people leave this area and never look back. Its narrow-minded ignorant people like you that give this area a bad name. You think that you are owed something from someone elses hard work!! Do you think Will is successful by luck? Did you play a role in his success? Im sure that when something doesnt go your way you are ready to blame everyone but yourself.
I'll tell you what, please dont come to the event on Sat. Stay away!! This is going to be a great event for the youth of this area. Please don't come taint it with your negativity and your cynicism.
Just because someone's a millionaire doesn't mean that person should go around giving things away for free. You should be thankful he's willing to come back to CNY and give back to the community he grew up in.
My boys are thrilled that Mr Smith is comming back to town. What a terrific roll model for the up and comming athelets in our area. Let's hope that there can be more success stories comming out of the Utica/Rome communities. God Bless Will Smith and his effert to share his blessings with us.
Will Smith did not grow up here. He is from NYC and states that on his player bio. It is sad that they have to say that the event is free, it should be implied. He makes over a million a year for playing a game. So yes, he should be giving his time away for free for the kids who buy his jersey and look up to him. It is about time someone does the right thing.
Will Smith was born in Queens, NY. He moved to Utica with his grandmother and sister in 7th grade. He attended JFK Jr High and Proctor High School. Yes he makes a lot of money playing a game, however do you have any idea what hard work it takes to get and stay at that level? Do you know the avg length of an NFL career? Although you flick on the TV on Sunday and watch "A Game", do you have any Idea what he has to do all year long to play at that level. There are plenty of people out there who were raised in Utica (Doctors, Lawyers, CEO's who make millions of dollars and do nothing for the Utica Area.
