Delaney: Poland gets Hamilton again
The area's best high school soccer rivalry just got better.
Kenny Miller scored a late goal for the Poland boys soccer team on Tuesday as the Tornadoes clinched the Center State Conference Division III title with a wild, 4-3 win over rival Hamilton.
"It was an exceptional game," Hamilton coach Brian Latella said.
Miller scored three goals for the undefeated Tornadoes (11-0-0, 15-0-2).
Latella said Poland took the lead three times and the Emerald Knights responded each time with the tying goal - the last time with 4:51 remaining on a goal by Tyler White. Miller, a junior forward who is Poland's leading scorer, then tallied his 13th goal of the season 40 seconds later to give the Tornadoes another win over Hamilton (9-2, 14-2). Poland has won four of the last six matches between the teams dating back to the 2006 Section III Class D final.
Chances are good the schools will meet again during the upcoming Section III Tournament.
